The Pilea Peperomioides — known as the “Chinese Money Plant” or “UFO Plant” for its perfectly round, coin-shaped leaves — is one of those plants that quietly becomes an obsession. It’s compact, cheerful, and has a charming habit of producing little offshoots at its base — known as “pups” — which you can separate and pot up to give to friends.
Plant Care 🌱
Sunlight
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Rotate it every week or two for even, symmetrical growth — it leans eagerly toward the light.
Watering
Water when the top layer of soil feels dry, roughly every 1–2 weeks. It’s sensitive to overwatering so ensure the pot has good drainage. Yellow leaves are usually its way of saying too much water.
Pet-friendly?
Yes! Non-toxic to cats and dogs.
tips
Feed with a diluted liquid fertiliser once a month in spring and summer. Don’t let it sit in a saucer of water. And when those pups appear at the base, let them grow a few centimetres before separating — they make wonderful gifts.
